In this guide, we are going to be looking at the concepts of the P2P Network, Why Blockchain P2P Network is important, and the Importance of the distributed network.

Peer-to-peer (P2P) means file sharing between different people across the web. Each downloader also becomes an uploader, making the process much more efficient than downloading from a centralized bunch of servers. Instead of overloading a single server, the traffic is decentralized and distributed among different users. P2P allows you to distribute data and free software more easily. It is also much more convenient for internal data sharing and distributing updates within an organization.

A peer-to-peer network sometimes refers to as a P2P network is one of the key parts of blockchain technology and it’s a huge improvement on how we store our data, but let’s start with, What is a Network?
A network is a group of interconnected devices that exchange information. These devices can be connected locally by a cable or wirelessly through the internet. The most commonly used type of network is a centralized client-server model.

  • A Client-Server network is a single server often operated by single entities such as one company, this server will handle all the tasks and requests on the network and store all the information exchanged because there is a central authority storing and managing all the information because of this, this model will have some serious problems, for example, all the private data can be stolen by hacking one server and the user has no control in how their information is controlled or even exploited. For example, you don’t own any of the photos that you upload to social media. Any company that owns a social media network owns your photos and they can do whatever it likes with them.

Blockchain networks are different from traditional client-server models because there is no central point of storage and therefore no controlling party instead, all the information on the network is constantly recorded and transferred between the participants on the network who all store multiple identical copies of the networks information. These participants are known as nodes or peers.

So a peer-to-peer network is a distributed network that stores and transfers data without a central server. Blockchain technology is built on top of P2P networks. Having no central point of storage makes the information on the network far less vulnerable to being hacked, exploited, or lost which is why P2P networks and blockchain technology are huge improvements on traditional centralized models and are the future of data storage and ownership.

What really is Peer to Peer?

Peer to peer is a way of communicating directly between two parties with no third parties in between. For example, if lima wants to send a message to tally over the internet, the message leaves his device and is pushed to a server, then the server sends a message to tallys device using peer-to-peer communication, the message goes straight from Ben’s device to tallys device just like having a conversation in normal life. Once the connection is established between two devices, each device works as its own server and receiver, allowing messages to travel uninterrupted. Bitcoin gave new life to peer-to-peer systems. Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency without a central bank that can be sent from user-to-user on the peer-to-peer network

Why does this matter?

When data gets sent to a central server, it can be monitored, and stored for later use, sold to third parties, or stolen by criminals. Peer-to-peer lets you take full control of who sees your data, where your information goes, and how it’s used with no third party holding your data and the power is in your hands. Peer-to-peer also helps to ensure security since your data is stored on your device criminals can exploit your server to get your info. With the help of decentralization and encryption, a user has even more security and independence than ever before.

The internet was created with free information and global connection at its core. As a user of the internet you can choose which platforms you support with your data and time. Centralized systems might use your data and time for their own benefit.. Luckily, these decentralized peer-to-peer systems are becoming more and more common, allowing you to control your data online.
